Working the Waiver Wire - Week 13

1) James Starks (GB RB)
Starks came out of nowhere and all of the sudden seized the lion's share of the carries in the Packers backfield. Coach McCarthy says he expects to use a "three-man backfield" going forward. Brandon Jackson has been competent enough to not lose games for Aaron Rodgers, but Starks may be the answer to Green Bay's inability to establish a respectable running game. Jackson will still be in on all passing downs, but Starks makes for a decent flex play this week against Detroit. He managed 73 yards against a tough San Fran run D this week. He's my number one add this week.

2) Tashard Choice (DAL RB)
Thank goodness Marion Barber is finally gone. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice can each excel in his absence. Granted, Choice won't always get to face the Colts, but he made several impressive runs on his way to 100 yards and a TD. Felix is probably still in line for more carries than Choice, despite Choice outperforming him. But Choice makes for a fine pickup and could win you your league if you lost Frank Gore, when Choice plays Washington and Arizona in the semi-finals and finals. Look for him to get 10 or more touches.

3) Chris Ivory (NO RB)
Ivory is still only owned in one third of leagues. Every week, we hear about Pierre Thomas's return, so it's understandable why you'd hesitate to add Ivory. But you just can't believe the Pierre Thomas talk anymore. Ivory ran for 117 yard and 2 TDs against Cincy this past weekend. He looked like a man with a purpose, and reminds me of BenJarvus Green-Ellis. He doesn't have a great playoff schedule, facing St. Louis, Baltimore, and Atlanta, but the featured back on this high octane offense has got to be owned in your league.

4) Anthony Armstrong (WAS WR)
Washington was a trainwreck against the Giants on Sunday, but Armstrong was the lone brightspot, hauling in 6 catches for 97 yards and a TD. Armstrong hasn't had less than 41 yards since week 2. He is not an elite play, but if you need at least a couple points from your WR spot, try this deep threat. He gets Tampa Bay (who just lost Aqib Talib for the season), Dallas, and Jacksonville.

5) Earl Bennett (CHI WR)
Bennett has really stepped up recently, suddenly becoming Jay Cuter's go-to guy. He hauled in 4 catches for 56 yards and 2 TDs last week, and then 7 catches for 104 yards on Sunday, converting multiple key third downs. Bennett matched Johnny Knox's targets last week, and had 5 more targets than Knox on Sunday. Bennett gets New England and Minnesota over the next 2 weeks, and then a tough final matchup against the Jets.

6) Ben Watson (CLE TE)
Watson had a great Sunday with a nice even statline - 10 catches for 100 yards and 1 TD. He gets a beautiful matchup against Buffalo in week 14, followed by Cincinnati and Baltimore. Delhomme will continue to check down early and often to Watson who continues to be Cleveland's best receiver.
