It's never too early to make roster moves. In fact, depending on what you're eying, it may soon be too late. Perhaps you drafted 3 weeks ago and got players like T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Vincent Jackson, Steve Breaston, Robert Meachem, Kenny Britt, Julius Jones, Laurence Maroney, or Matt Leinart. There are a few guys on the waiver wire available to add, but you figure, "Ehh I drafted these big name guys - I might as well wait and see how my guys do week 1, and then see which of these supposed 'sleeper' free agents do well this weekend." The problem with waiting until Tuesday is that everyone else in your league will know which "sleepers" look good too. Tampa Bay's Mike Williams is a cool cat, and after Sunday's game, the cat will be out of the bag.
Free Agent Adds:
It's difficult to say who you must add because I don't know who you'd have to drop for him, or your league's size and scoring. But if Jacoby Jones, Mike Williams (TB), or Kareem Huggins is available in your 12 team league, I would do my best to make room and snatch him up now. I would drop any of the guys I listed above (with the most hesitation for Meachem and Britt who could easily prove me wrong and become fantasy factors this year).
If you're in a slightly deeper league or just have a spot to burn, you should consider these receivers (in the order in which I prefer them): Louis Murphy, Jabar Gaffney, Mike Williams (SEA), Laurent Robinson, Nate Burleson, Mohamed Masaquoi.
For RBs, get Fred Taylor, Bernard Scott, and possibly James Davis or Rashad Jennings. (It's still too early to pick up my deep sleeper, Keiland Williams).
For TE depth, try Dustin Keller, Greg Olsen, Heath Miller, (definitely Shiancoe if he's available), and keep your eye on Tony Scheffler this weekend.
Finally, if your only QB is Palmer, Kolb, Flacco, Manning, Favre, Ryan, or McNabb, I would encourage you to get some backup depth from any of the above guys if they're available, or Stafford, Orton, Young, Henne, or Derek Anderson. After this week's matchup against STL, if Anderson performs as well as he should, he may be gone.
Trades:
If there's a player who you love and think his owner undervalues, you better get him now before the player shows off his talent. I think the best example is Jermichael Finley. In some leagues, Finley went 3rd of TEs so everyone knows how good he is. But in other leagues, Finley might not be such a big name and he was drafted 7th maybe. If you think he'll be a top 3 TE (like I do), then trade for him now before he busts out this Sunday against Philly (who gave up the 2nd most points to TEs last year). You can offer your TE in a 1-for-1 deal if you have Witten, Celek, or Gonzalez. Or you can offer a 2-for-1 with your TE and a decent W/R - so pair Winslow or Cooley with Reggie Bush or Santana Moss, depending on whether you need RBs or WRs more.
Other guys who I think are still undervalued that won't be undervalued after this weekend: Johnny Knox, Jerome Harrison, Wes Welker, Matt Forte, Jay Cutler, Malcolm Floyd, Darren McFadden, and Tim Hightower. Consult our top 200 list to make sure you're not trading away a more valuable player.
Best of luck this weekend!

Finley will be a BEAST this season! as soon as gates and clark were gone, i went staright to the Jerm man
Hey would you drop Zach Miller for any of those TEs? Cuz Keller is available in my league.
Would you start Arian foster over javid best?
No, definitely not. Check our rankings above to see who we think is more valuable. The suggestions in the article are for adding depth if you have a spot to burn. I would drop any of the guys mentioned in the beginning, or Anthony Gonzalez or Julian Edelman, for example.
The above comment is for the TE question.
In response to the RB question, that's a close call but I think I'd go with Best this weekend. I like Foster better in the long-run, but I'l give the edge to Best this weekend.
Thank you both for reading!
Hey Brett, I'm trying to put together my roster right now and have a couple questions: A) how do you think the steelers wrs will do with dioxin at the helm? Are they startable over guys like jacoby jones? B) I have three slots to fill and four pretty solid rbs but I have some matchup questions, who should I start between jstew at nyg, shonn greene at bal, Ronnie brown at buf, and Arian foster at Indy? Thanks!
@Champ: Good team you put together, Champ! The Steelers WRs are somewhat of wildcards without a track record with Dixon. In Dixon's one start last year, Hines Ward had only 3 catches for 47 yards, and Santonio Holmes had 6 catches for 74 yards a TD. If you think Mike Wallace can do a good Holmes, impression, then I'd probably start Wallace. Jacoby Jones is more of a wait and see guy at this point. He's extremely talents but he is technically the third option in Houston.
As for the RBs, I'd go with JStew, Brown, and Foster. Greene has the toughest matchup and LT will take some carries. Greene will be decent, but you have 3 better options.
I get that W/R depth is important, but what about TE/QB?...if you skimp on one to have greater depth in other areas, which on do you skimp on? Thanks!
@Jessica: That depends on which QB and TE you have, and which are available. If you have Aaron Rodgers, you really don't need a backup because you would never start him over Rodgers (except on Rodgers' bye). That being said, if there's a quality QB available to add, get him for trade value even if you wouldn't start him over your QB1. In a 12 team league, if Cutler, Favre, Palmer, Roethlisberger, Kolb, Flacco, Ryan, or McNabb is available, you can't let that happen so swoop him up.
Same goes for TEs. If you don't have a top 6 guy, consider adding 1 if he's decent. There's no point in pairing Chris Cooley with Shockey because you likely won't start Shockey and no one else would pick up Shockey from the waiver wire if you don't.
I tend to have 3 roster spots for QBs and TEs combined: 1 spot for whichever position I got early, and 2 for a decent pairing of whichever position I got later. So Peyton, Zach Miller, and Chris Cooley appear on one team. And Cutler, Palmer, and Finley appear on another.
