We drafted the FFMVP Fan League last night with an
impressive group of intelligent listeners and readers. It was a standard 12
team ESPN League, and let me tell you, I couldn’t pull any punches with these
folks. The draft did not proceed exactly
down our Top 200 cheatsheet, but close enough such that there was never a
single player left available while a bunch of players below him were blacked out
(which is normally the indicator of a steal in my other drafts). I’m still
quite happy with my team. With the 7th overall pick, I snagged:
1.
Arian Foster
2.
Vincent Jackson
3.
LeGarrette Blount
4.
Dwayne Bowe
5.
Kenny Britt
6.
Wes Welker
7.
Mike Tolbert
8.
Joseph Addai
9.
Joe Flacco
10. Robert
Meachem
11. Danny
Amendola
12. Chicago
Bears
13. Aaron
Hernandez
14. Jared
Cook
15. Kendall
Hunter
16. Adam
Vinatieri
If Kenny Britt lives up to his potential this year, I will
be a very happy man, as I own him in 5 or 6 leagues. The best value picks here
are Addai in the 8th and Amendola in the 11th. I typically like to pair Flacco
with another decent QB, but there were none available so I’m keeping my fingers
crossed that he stays healthy. Now onto a few highlights of other rosters:
Team No Huddle: Sammy
from Pekin, Illinois
Sammy had a nice Daniel Thomas pick in the 8th round. Of
course, Thomas has been getting repeatedly slammed in every fantasy outlet you
can read these days, but this is a fair value for a guy who just needs an
injury to an injury-prone player in order to succeed.
Nu Era: Trevor from
Jacksonville Florida
Here’s what I don’t like: Taking three QBs (Brady, Ryan, and
Orton), because you will start Brady every week he’s not on bye. Here’s what I
do like: Trevor snagged three of our FFMVP favorites at the RB positions and
boasts Ray Rice, Felix Jones, and Beanie Wells. Not too shabby!
FFMVP: Cory
I want to point out that my partner in crime made two nice
upside picks with his last two picks before taking his Kicker and Defense. Cory
grabbed Deji Karim and Delone Carter. With Rashad Jennings out for the year,
Karim becomes a worthwhile handcuff / sleeper, and Carter officially
leapfrogged Donald Brown for the Colts #2RB job yesterday. Way to be, Cory.
City of Angels Year
Of The Dez: Adam from LA, California
Adam reached for Josh Freeman in the 6th round, but made up
for that by stealing James Starks in the 7th round. Interestingly, we have
Starks ranked 25 spots higher than Freeman, but Adam got them in reverse order.
Team Lopez: Jose from
San Jose, California
Jose has the best 1-2 punch of WRs possible with Johnson &
Johnson (Andre and Calvin, that is.) He added Manningham, Julio Jones, and Nate
Burleson. If Jones blows up, he will likely want to trade him for an upgrade at
RB.
We’ll see how these devoted fantasy football freaks fare
against the FFMVP staff this weekend! First up to bat against me is Sammy. Bring it on.

You missed Nu Era getting the steal of the draft with Jimmy Graham in the tenth round
thats crazy good value to get foster with the 7th pick, but it looks like you loaded up on a bunch of mediocre-good wide receivers, how many wrs are you guys planning on starting?
Britt sucks on and off the field but everyone knows Matt Hasselbeck and the Titans are known for being one of the strongest passing attacks in the NFL...oh wait
@Cory: Good point; Graham was a solid value.
@Anonymous: I'll probably start 3 WRs each week, with VJax firmly in the WR1 spot, and rotating in Bowe, Welker, and Britt (all of whom I consider solid WR2s)
I'm so excited for football to start but these Thursday games stress me out. I never know whether or not someone has a "good" or "bad" game when it's all out of context. If I'm starting James Starks tomorrow night at flex (it's a deep league so cut me some slack), what do people think is a reasonable expectation of what he will do? 25-50, 50-75, a TD?
haha i like how you respond to the posts before and after me, too afraid to justify your britt pick? just messing around i love the site i just don't love the titans passing game.
@Jacques Strap - first off, great name haha. i think starks will be the more productive back than grant because he will get receiving yards, and i think eventually he will be the better back. but for the first game i would anticipate 25-50 on the ground and 25-50 through the air (not bad out of your flex if your league really is that deep!) but i doubt he'll get a td just yet unless it's from far out. kuhn is still the short yardage and goalline back. hope it helps
I like the Josh Freeman pick. He will rush alot this year.
If Arian can't go this week, is Ben Tate worth a flex spot?
ward is the listed backup but tate might be in there to spell him a little so if you're okay with possibly only getting 3 or 4 points he might be okay
