Working the Waiver Wire - Week 11: Go Grab Goodson!

RBs

1) Mike Goodson (CAR RB)
Owned in less than a third of leagues, Goodson has really surprised as of late. He delivered in an easy matchup as a spot-start last week with 100 yards against Tampa. But this week, only the prophetic or extraordinarily desperate owners started this 4th stringer against Baltimore. Remarkably, Goodson ran for 120 yards against the vaunted Ravens D and generated 31 yards on 5 catches. That's good for a 5.5 YPC. If you watched this game, you may have noticed that Goodson looked fast, like really fast. The key to Goodson's continued success will be Carolina's refusal to abandon the run even when they're trailing by multiple touchdowns. Maybe instead of "refusal to abandon the run," I should say, "inability to do anything but run" because stay-at-home-dad-turned-surprised-NFL-quarterback Brian St. Pierre is not getting it down through the air. DeAngelo Williams was placed on injured reserve, and Jon Stewart is no lock to retake the starting job even if he does recover soon, because Goodson is averaging 4.4 YPC on the season while JStew is averaging 3.0. I might start Goodson again this week against a solid Cleveland D, and I'm definitely starting Goodson against SEA and ARZ in the stretch run.

2) Maurice Morris (DET RB)
Jahvid Best just cannot shake this nagging toe injury and is looking very unlikely to suit up on Thanksgiving. Morris generated 31 rushing yards and 40 receiving yards on 4 catches against Dallas. I'm not super excited about Morris's talent, and Detroit has more pass attempts than any team in the league. Limited rushing attempts and limited talent don't make for a good fantasy situation, but hey, any featured back on an NFL team is at least roster-worthy.

QBs

1) Jon Kitna (DAL QB)
I've talked about Kitna for a few weeks now. He keeps producing, yet people keep letting him sit on the waiver in 3/4 of leagues. Pick him up already.

WRs
All four of these WRs will benefit from an injury to a teammate.

1) Derek Hagan (NYG WR)
Hagan only posted 3 catches for 10 yards and a TD in Sunday Night Football. But he makes for an intriguing upside pickup because Hakeem Nicks will be sidelined for 3 weeks and Steve Smith isn't close to returning yet either. Eli Manning has been playing exceptionally well this season and in the next few weeks, he's got to throw the ball to someone! Say goodbye to Smith and Nicks and hello to Derek Hagan and Duke Calhoun!

2) Brian Hartline (MIA WR)
In Thursday Night Football, Hartline posted a respectable if not eye-popping 5 catches for 70 yards. Over the last 4 weeks, here are Hartline's fantasy numbers: 9, 9, 10, 8. With Brandon Marshall very possibly out this week, Hartline could make for a reliable plug and play.

3) Blair White (IND WR)
Austin Collie just cannot stay healthy this season. Once he left Sunday's game, White had 5 catches for 42 yards and 2 TDs. Pierre Garcon and his drops continue to frustrate Peyton Manning so you get the sense that when Wayne isn't open, Manning is looking for someone else reliable to throw the ball to. White will be inconsistent as the 3rd or 4th target on the team, but has upside in deep leagues.

4) Ben Obomanu (SEA WR)
Obomanu had 5 catches for 87 yards and a TD against the Saints on Sunday to cap off 3 straight decent games. Mike Williams may miss time due to a foot injury so Hasselbeck will be looking for a new go-to guy and it could be Obomanu. He's only owned in 1% of leagues so let's try to make it 4% by tomorrow!

Defenses

1) Cleveland Browns
I never write about fantasy defenses. But this is a special case: Cleveland posted 22 points this weekend, and now they get to face a Carolina team that provided Baltimore's defense with 23 fantasy points. Thus, I must imagine Cleveland will score 22.5 fantasy points this weekend. Although these things are never that predictable, I am excited about another chance at some patented St. Pierre pick sixes this week. Cleveland is available in 87% of leagues.
