For the urgent Turkey-Day decisions, here are the hot and not players for Thursday's action.
HOT
Shaun Hill (DET QB) vs. NE 2
Hill has been solid in almost every start this season and has averaged over 300 yards in his past 2 starts. This week, Hill gets a porous Patriots secondary. With Jahvid Best likely out, Hill will be chucking the ball to Megatron all day.
BenJarvus Green-Ellis (NE RB) vs. DET 3
This may be obvious to some, but he's being started in less than half of leagues. He will feast on Detroit this Thanksgiving. The 2010 Patriots are not the 2007 Patriots - If running the ball is getting first downs, then New England will run and won't force it downfield to Randy Moss (in no small part because he's not there.)
Nate Burleson (DET WR) vs. NE 7
Burleson has strung together some impressive outings. Megatron gets all the defensive attention, leaving this crafty receiver as the oft-open target of Shaun Hill. I'll happily plug him in my flex spot in matchups as friendly as this one.
Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards (NYJ WRs) vs. CIN 9
With Jericho Cotchery ailing, there is some clarity at the receiver position in New York. Also, after a red-hot start to the season, Dustin Keller has really cooled down. This leaves Holmes and Edwards as the primary targets in this offense. I like Holmes more after 3 clutch performances in a row, but both can start against a surprisingly bad Cincy secondary.
Brandon Pettigrew (DET TE) vs. NE 8
Pettigrew has been incredibly consistent this season and has been especially good with Shaun Hill under center. This has surprisingly become a scary season for TEs. Antonio Gates is running away with 1st place, and guess who is 2nd in fantasy points? Marcedes Lewis! Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, and Vernon Davis have all been just okay. So someone like Brandon Pettigrew is about as good as the top 5 options. Start him confidence against the Pats.
NOT
Terrell Owens (CIN WR) vs. NYJ 15
Revis Island is back. If he can shut down the Johnsons (Calvin and Andre), he can shut down T.O.
Miles Austin and/or Dez Bryant (DAL WR) vs. NO 32
It's time to talk about Jabari Greer in the same breath as Revis as one of the league's premiere shut down corners. I'm just having a hard time figuring out WHO Dallas's number one receiver is these days, as Bryant has become the clear favorite lately. I wouldn't be surprised if at least one of these guys has a solid game, but I'm hesitant to start either in this league-worst matchup.
