Comas

Yesterday, we talked sleepers. Today, we'll discuss popular sleeper candidates that likely will never wake up - players in comas.

Burried WRs
These guys are a little too far down the depth chart for me to spend a valuable draft pick on.

James Jones: Jones is an extremely popular sleeper candidate because Rodgers is such a prolific QB. But Rodgers already has Jennings, Driver, and Finley. Others are counting on a Driver injury for Jones to become valuable. Yes, Driver is long in the tooth and had 2 knee surgeries, so it's fair to assume his production will drop-off, but I don't feel comfortable banking on an injury.

Early Doucet: Have you seen Matt Leinart in the preseason games? He looks horrible. I'm worried about Larry FItzgerald's numbers, and have doubts about Steve Breaston. There's no way Leinart can support three wide receivers. Kurt Warner provided Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Breaston with 1,000 yard seasons in '08, but Leinart sure ain't Warner.

Brian Robiskie: Bad offense. Bad quarterback. Too many WRs ahead of Robiskie on the depth chart. And Robiskie's natural talents have not quite translated to the NFL-level yet.

Earl Bennett: I am slightly buying into the Mike Martz-Jay Cutler lovefest. Hester, Knox, and Aromashadu all have a chance to be impact players (my money is on Knox). But Bennett won't surpass these guys.

WR2s With QBs Who Can’t Support 2 WRs

Josh Morgan: Alex Smith looks competent. He can win games and keep drives alive with short passes and an occasional deep ball to Crabtree or Vernon Davis. But the Niners offense can't support Crabtree, Davis, and Gore - too many mouths to feed. Plus Morgan saw ZERO targets through plenty of snaps on Sunday.

Harry Douglas/Michael Jenkins: It doesn't matter who wins this battle. Matt Ryan will throw to Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez, and the #2 WR will be irrelevant.

Mike Thomas: Really? People think David Garrard can support 2 quality WRs? No thank you.

Davone Bess/Brian Hartline: It seems like the Miami receivers are always shuffling around sleeper lists because someone has to catch some passes there. Last year, Bess, Hartline, Ginn, and Camarillo showed up on Waiver Wire Add columns seemingly every week. But nothing every panned out. Ginn is now on the Niners, and Camarillo was just moved to the Vikings - do not draft either one. That leaves Bess or Hartline to play 2nd fiddle to Brandon Marshall. 1) I don't think Bess or Hartline is that talented. 2) We don't know which will start. 3) I question Chad Henne's ability to make either one a star.

Handcuffs

Bernard Scott: Scott is extremely talented. There's no doubt that if Benson gets hurt, Scott will be a quality every week starter. But he's being drafted like he'll automatically start. He's a handcuff. I'd rather draft someone who will also benefit from an injury but also has potential to split carries beginning week 1 - Darren McFadden, Fred Jackson, Leon Washington, Fred Taylor, or Laurence Maroney. I see these guys going before Scott in some drafts. I do agree with Matt Berry that Scott should be the first handcuff off the board though.

Justin Forsett: This guy has way too much hype. Seattle looks very much like a true committee situation. Forsett will split carries with Julius Jones and Leon Washington (I like Washington as a sleeper). I have Forsett as a handcuff because he's only truly valuable if someone gets injured. Plus, Seattle's offense sucks.

Bad QBs with Great Receivers
All these guys have great receiving weapons and some are competent, but they won't be stars:
Matt Leinart, Matt Moore, Alex Smith, Tarvaris Jackson (also needs the Favre injury).
