Grading the FFMVP

We thought it would be nice to hold ourselves accountable and do a quick check-in with our own accuracy after one month of football.

Going all the way back to the preseason, we wrote an article based on what we saw in the pre-season games and read in the news, where we labeled “Guys You Want” and “Guys You Don’t Want.” Notable “Guys You Want” included one Arian Foster, Ahmad Bradshaw, L.T., Darren McFadden, Zach Miller, and Louis Murphy. Unfortunately, the list also included jokers like Laurent Robinson, Keiland Williams, and Jerome Harrison. Under “Guys You Don’t Want (relative to their draft position),” we listed Larry Fitzgerald, Shonn Greene, Kevin Kolb, Beanie Wells, Brandon Jacobs, Robert Meachem, Steve Breaston, and Kenny Britt. We also listed Justin Forsett in there, who takes a big hit with Lynch's arrival (though we didn't exactly predict that), and DeSean Jackson when we were under the assumption that Kolb would be the QB. It’s still true that when Kolb is starting, Jackson will not post huge numbers. All in all, it looks like we were right on 30 of the calls, and wrong on 15.

In Week 3’s Hot or Not, we were correct on 27 recommendations and wrong on 10. Most notably, we correctly told you to start Bruce Gradkowski and Mark Clayton, and bench DeAngelo Williams and Jon Stewart. We were wrong on Peyton Hillis who had a huge game against Baltimore’s staunch run D. In Week 4, we were correct on 16 recommendations, and wrong on 8. We predicted Shonn Greene’s resurgence and told you you could start both Greene and Tomlinson with confidence. We also told you to sit possibly your WR1, Steve Smith (Car). On the other hand, we were dead wrong in telling you to bench Kyle Orton and Joe Flacco, who both delivered in spite of tough matchups.

In summary, it looks like we have been correct on 69% of the calls – my favorite number. So for every misstep like touting Jerome Harrison, there are a few more of the bold and beautiful correct calls like drafting Arian Foster, and benching DeAngelo Williams.

Well, some of your calls have cost me games, but some have been solid I suppose. And if you were to "grade" ESPN of NFL network, they'd probably fare no better. NFL Network's guy, Michael Fabiano kept saying to sit Palmer and T.O., and that Benson would have a huge game. WRONG.

Yeah, some of your sits and starts haven't paid off necessarily when looking at my optimal lineup, but I also probably wouldn't have had the depth to choose from in setting my roster without your advice, I wouldn't beat yourself up

I would like to comment that crabtree sucks

Is it just one person running this whole site? Or are there multiple posters?

Haha. You may feel free to comment that Crabtree sucks. I think there's a good chance he improves, but he will not approach his draft day value. So I think it's fair to call him a bust.

There are multiple people helping run this site.

And I'm glad you like this site!

With moss now on the Vikings, would you expect a drop off in his production or will favre try to use him like he did Sidney rice? Who will be the biggest beneficiary in the pats passing game?

On the vikings I feel like moss will draw double coverage and allow for harvin to be targeted more. AP will probably benefit too dont you think?

I lucked out with some fringe rbs that have all delivered but I can't start them all,

Who would you bench between cj2k, bradshaw, jamaal Charles and Peyton hills?

Bowe Derek said...

Charles is explosive but he's nit guaranteed the lions share of the carries with mccluster and jones, bradshaw and hillis are primary backs and cj2k has too much potential to bench, but you're lucky to have that kind of depth especially with byes here

@D-Train - great work! I would bench Charles or Hillis, probably Charles.

Yeah man, if the Chiefs fall behind and have to throw, Charles just might post only a handful of points. Then again, the Colts can't play run D, and Charles could outrun everybody on that turf...

Call me crazy, but I would actually entertain the notion of benching CJ at Dallas.

Bradshaw is money at Houston, Hillis has Atlanta at home, and Charles has the best chance to break off a long run...

It's a tough choice and I might sway one way or the other based on the synergy with your lineup (i.e., who your starting QB is, are you playing the DST the RB is matching up against, etc.).

I must be crazy.
