Working the Waiver Wire - Week 2 (Part 2)

UPDATE: Redskins cut Larry Johnson, so add Keiland Williams to the top of the waiver wire list.
Also, Coach Reid announced that Michael Vick will start week 3, so don't drop Vick yet.

Today we'll discuss Tight Ends and follow up on last week's Waiver Wire Wonders.

TEs
Dustin Keller (NYJ TE)
Unlike the other guys, Keller is owned in a substantial amount of leagues, but if he's a free agent in your league, strongly consider adding him. Keller led the Jets in targets, receptions, and yards with 7 catches for 115 yards and a TD. He makes for a solid goalline target, so 8 TDs are not out of the question.  I would drop Greg Olsen, John Carlson, Jeremy Shockey, or Todd Heap for him.

Aaron Hernandez (NE TE)
Hernandez caught all 6 of his targets for 101 yards. Meanwhile, the other Patriots TE, Gronkowski, had just one catch for 14 yards. The Patriots historically don't produce solid fantasy TEs, but Brady has been looking to the TE a lot dating back to the first preseason game. We knew that one of these 2 young TEs would have value, but couldn't predict who. Now it seems like Hernandez is the guy to own.

Marcedes Lewis (JAC TE)
Lewis was second in targets after Mike Sims-Walker. Lewis hauled in 5 catches for 70 yards, on 9 targets. Last week, Lewis had a seemingly flukey 2 catch day for 2 TDs. I like that Lewis has proven through 2 weeks that he can get his points through yards and through TDs. (Just like Mark Clayton's 10 catch 100+ yard performance in week 1, followed by just 2 catches but both for TDs in week 2.) With Jacksonville's offensive line issues, Garrard may be dumping it off short to Lewis a lot this season.

Tony Moeaki (KC TE)
Moeaki led the Chiefs receivers for the 2nd week in a row. He was the most targeted by far (10 targets, with Dwayne Bowe in 2nd place with 5.) Moeaki grabbed 5 catches for 58 yards. Matt Cassel has looked pretty bad so far, so it's hard to know what to make of this, but Moaeki is worth consideration.

Follow-Up On Last Week's Waiver Wire Column:
Since so much of the Waiver Wire Work is speculative, you may have added 2 guys with impressive week 1 outings, but now only 1 has proven that he deserves his spot on your roster. So here's who you should keep, and who you can let go. (Keep in mind the competitiveness of your league. If it's more casual, I would break ties in favor of the bigger name guy, because chances are, no one in your league is going to rush to add Josh Freeman or Aaron Hernandez.)

1) Brandon Jackson - We've discussed his situation in Game Recaps. Hold on to him of course.

2) Michael Vick - This is a difficult one. You picked him up, he did so well for you, and now you're supposed to just cut him? If you need QB help now, I'd drop Vick for Kyle Orton or Josh Freeman. But if you can wait 2 or 3 weeks, Vick has a chance at reclaiming the starting QB job if Kevin Kolb continues to suck. I'm holding onto Vick in deeper leagues, and cutting him when there are guys like Orton and Demaryius Thomas available in 10 or 12-team leagues.

3) Fred Taylor - Horrible week 2 performance, but it was against the Jets. Kevin Faulk actually led the RBs in snaps, but is now out indefinitely with an injury. Plus, Maroney was traded to Denver. Hold on to Taylor for now.

4) Peyton Hillis - Hillis had half the carries of Jerome Harrison (8 to 16), but was more productive with those carries. Both backs are involved in the passing game, and Hillis looks like the goalline back. Though it slightly pains me to admit it, Hillis is definitley worth holding on to. If you started him in your flex, you got a nice little 12 point day from him.

5) Tony Scheffler - As mentioned, I still think Scheffler has value. But if you drop him today, no one will rush to grab him.

6) Legedu Naanee - Naanee followed a 17 point fantasy week with a 1 pointer. I'm dropping him for Demaryius Thomas, Mike Tolbert, and Kyle Orton, depending on my team's needs.

7) Mark Clayton - As discussed, Clayton could have a good year. Sam Bradford looks more than competent for a rookie QB. Hold on to Clayton.

8) Mike Thomas - Like we predicted, Mike Sims-Walker's zero catch performance in week 1 was a fluke, and so was Thomas' 6 catch performance. You can cut Thomas.

9) Austin Collie - Collie and Pierre Garcon will rotate having their good weeks, but it's hard to confidently start them. Collie outperformed Garcon again, but didn't run away with the job with only 25 yards. You should probably hold on to Collie because when the bye weeks hit, you could do worse.

10) Eddie Royal
- He looked decent once again. He might be the 2nd most productive Denver WR after Demaryius Thomas. He's probably worth holding onto to see if he can have a 3rd straight week of flex-worthy performances.

11) Brandon Lloyd - Week 1 was a fluke. Cut him.

Demaryius thomas has got to be the TOP pickup this week!

I need an RB and have room for only 1 (dropping Brandon Lloyd). Should I bid on Tolbert, Sproles, or Fred Taylor?

I like Tolbert. Tayor might be "the guy" on New england for most of the season, while tolbert might only get a week or 2 while mathews is injured. but you're not gonna start taylor anyway right?

Vick is named as the starter for the Eagles for football reasons, not Kolb injury reasons. Unless something happens otherwise, he will be starting for the remainder of the season.

Hmm I think I like Taylor more than Tolbert or Sproles. But it's close. If we hear any word that Mathews is missing time, then I definitely switch my vote. But the word for now is that Mathews will start on Sunday.

I currently have Olsen and I just picked up Hernandez... Turns out Dustin Keller is on the board too... Should I keep my two TE's or swap one out?
